It's some time since I submitted anything to this blog, nor that there hasn't been anything worth writing about, but more that I'm not sure what I can safely write about without fear of repercussions. I shall endeavour to keep my blogs to neutral subjects if I can so as not to upset/offend.
It was a real Spring day today, Sunday 21st March 2010. The sun shining down on us, as we prepared Daisy (VW camper (T25) van) ready for the coming season. How happy it made us as we washed, swept, cleaned and polished her, and she started first time too, even after being off the road all Winter. How incredible is that? A 27 year old vehicle that started first time can put many a younger car to shame that has difficulty after only a few weeks off the road with a flat battery.
It felt like a promise of things to come as the sun warmed our very bones and we got on with our labour of love. The weekends away, the camping, touring the south coast line and wonderful time spent following the sun...and not forgetting of course the vw fests..bugjam, vanfest etc. along with the others in the v dub fraternity, once bitten, forever smitten, in the blood, under the skin..etc etc..
Just waiting for the beginning of next month so that I can get her taxed for the next 6 months having sailed though her MOT, the cleanest van they'd ever come across!! Just getting her name written on her and a couple of daisies here and there, the mercedes split rims and the meaty tyres just add to the beauty of her and turn heads as we drive past. Not to mention the obvious garland of rainbow coloured flowers that adorns the rear view mirror, proof of show attendance and mandatory in the eyes of v dub enthusiasists.
Over the Winter I have missed the camaraderie, the friendly connection with my fellow drivers on the roads all joined together under the VW flag of honour. Feeling assured and comforted that wherever we may roam we shall never be alone on the road, if (God forbid) if we ever actually broke down that we would find help from another of our kind who would only be too pleased to offer some assistance in our hour of need. Hopefully it will never happen, we travelled 700 miles last year over 4 days and she could have done do9uble that easily. Daisy did not come to us until mid way through the season but this year we have her from the outset and are planning to take her with us everywhere very proudly.. days out, overnight stays (cheaper than hotels) and she allows us to literally 'follow the sun', checking on the internet each morning so we know where we're heading.
Roll on 1st April and let us get on the road again, woohoo!
